Day at the zoo

stlzoo

The weather has been a bit up and down here lately, mostly down being that it’s still winter, but near the end of January it was actually quite warm. So, since it was a nice day and Katie wanted to test out one of her new lenses, we headed out to the zoo.

First, we went to see one of my personal favorites – lemurs! Specifically, ring-tailed lemurs.

After those guys, we headed over to see the big cats. I didn’t get many photos of them though because it was quite crowded around their viewing areas. The next ones that I took the most pictures of were the red pandas.

Of course, one of them was sleeping, but even sleeping it was adorable.

Then it was off to another one of my favorites – Rockhopper Penguins!

This guy was posing for everyone.

Those are some of the best ones of the ones that I took, I think, but the rest are on my flickr.

2016 Start

Happy New Year!
I hope everyone’s start to 2016 was a good one. I spent most of the first resting and reading, but we did go out for a couple of hours to survey the flooding in Valley Park. The waters had gone down some, but, as you can see in the photos below, there’s still quite a bit under water.

The rest of my evening was spent snuggling up with this cute kitty below.

Goodbye 2015

Taken by Katie

There’s still a bit of 2015 left to go for me, but many of my friends are already in 2016, so happy new year!

2015 has been a difficult year for me and those around me, so here’s hoping the new year will be much better for everyone. I’m sure most have heard about the flooding going on here in Missouri. I live quite close to the affected areas, but luckily we live on higher ground, so we’re fine. My roommate went out on Wednesday morning to see the rising waters and take a few pictures and you can view them here – Historic Flooding in Valley Park, MO.

Ending my last post of the year with an update on the little calico (pictured above) from the previous post. I’ve named her Sogo and she’s doing much better now. She seems to be fitting in well with the others, though she’s still cautious around them at times. She seems to be happy here and that makes me happy.

Forest Park in Autum

fp
Last weekend I tagged along with Katie over to Forest Park for another photo assignment she needed to get done. I actually hadn’t really been over there to walk around before, so there’s another place I can mark off my list. It’s lovely there in autumn, though it was super overcast that day. Here’s a few shots that I took.

I had Mamo-chan with me again. I really like how the colours in this one turned out.

The STL Science Center is nearby, so of course I had to get a shot of the T-Rex.

After we left that location, we headed over to The Muny to get a few more shots. We didn’t get to take as many there though because there were too many wedding parties getting photos taken.

I look forward to going back there again! Hopefully next time there will fewer big groups of wedding parties.

Ending this with a Rio since it’s National Cat Day.

Laumeier Sculpture Park

Last Sunday, I went with my roomie Katie to Laumeier Sculpture Park so that she could get some shots for her photography assignment. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there and they’ve added some things since then, so I took a few photos as well!

I didn’t remember this cat from the last time I went, so I was delighted to see it!

It’s a pretty neat place to visit and I would definitely recommend checking it out. Katie took a lot more (and better) photos, so go check out her blog!

Manchester Homecoming

DSC00840.jpg

This weekend in my town is Manchester Homecoming, a parade and fair-type festival. It’s not really my kind of thing and I’ve only been to it once or twice since I’ve lived here, but I’ve always liked walking or driving by to see the Ferris wheel at night.

This year, since we were close to the park it’s located in, the roomie and I decided to set up our cameras to take long exposures. Hers came out great, but mine were so-so. Of course, she’s using an app remote for hers (cheater!) and I’m using slightly unsteady and freezing hands. I think it turned out pretty neat anyway. I’ll link to Katie’s once she posts them.

Unrelated to the above, it’s freezing outside and I love it!

Phantom Phriday Vol. 10

ppv10

Long time no Phantom, but better late than never! It’s taken me a while to get back into posting these, but I’ll do my best to have them ready each week.

This week has a special guest — Phantom’s new housemate, Aya!

Isn’t she cute? Aya is about 4 months old and she’s been living with us since last week. She settled in very quickly and gets along well with the other three, especially Rio.

Since I haven’t gotten around to taking a good picture of her, I’m going to link to Katie’s post of pictures she’s taken. Just click on Phantom at the bottom!

Happy Friday!

Blue Moon

IMG_4732

Posting two pictures of the blue moon from a few weeks ago to say that I’m alive since I haven’t updated in a while. I wish I’d taken them a little sooner in the evening before the clouds started rolling in, but these two came out nicely despite that.

I’ll be starting up Phantom Phriday again this week, so anyone who enjoyed those look forward to it!
