2016 Start

Sogo

Happy New Year!
I hope everyone’s start to 2016 was a good one. I spent most of the first resting and reading, but we did go out for a couple of hours to survey the flooding in Valley Park. The waters had gone down some, but, as you can see in the photos below, there’s still quite a bit under water.

The rest of my evening was spent snuggling up with this cute kitty below.

Phantom Phriday Vol. 12

ppv12

First Phantom of the year!

Happy New Year from our feline crew!

Our first Phantom Phriday of the year features one of Phantom’s greatest foes – the mandarin. Phantom hates it’s citrus-y goodness with a passion and goes to great lengths to avoid it, usually by backing far away from it and dashing off to his nearest safe spot.

Phantom vs Mandarin

“That smell offends my senses, minion.”

Phantom vs Mandarin

“I knew it was you..”

Phantom vs Mandarin

“Wait, minion. Why on earth are you moving it closer? Get that away from me!”

Phantom vs Mandarin

“..Bring that any closer to me and I’ll pee on everything you love.”

Goodbye 2015

Taken by Katie

There’s still a bit of 2015 left to go for me, but many of my friends are already in 2016, so happy new year!

2015 has been a difficult year for me and those around me, so here’s hoping the new year will be much better for everyone. I’m sure most have heard about the flooding going on here in Missouri. I live quite close to the affected areas, but luckily we live on higher ground, so we’re fine. My roommate went out on Wednesday morning to see the rising waters and take a few pictures and you can view them here – Historic Flooding in Valley Park, MO.

Ending my last post of the year with an update on the little calico (pictured above) from the previous post. I’ve named her Sogo and she’s doing much better now. She seems to be fitting in well with the others, though she’s still cautious around them at times. She seems to be happy here and that makes me happy.

Calico-san

My roommate set up this gofundme page for the little calico kitten that we’re currently fostering. I’m posting this here in case anyone would like to help out in any way. Any help, be it a donation or sharing this, is greatly appreciated!

After sleeping most of the night, the kitten seems to be feeling much better, so taking her to the vet to get checked out was definitely the right call.

Otsukare, Sensei—Goodbye to Mizuki Shigeru

百物語怪談会 Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai

Shigeru Mizuki in Hat

There is nothing sad about the death of Mizuki Shigeru. And I say this as someone who shed more than a few tears when I heard the news last night. He lived about as good a life that could possibly be lived; the ripe old age of 93; wealthy in every way that matters; respected by his peers; beloved. He died a good death. The only thing that is sad is that the rest of us now have to live in a world that doesn’t have Mizuki Shigeru. And we are poorer for it.

mizuki3

To say that Mizuki Shigeru was a comic artist is like saying the Brothers Grimm crafted a quaint book of fairy stories or that Walt Disney made some cartoons. Mizuki was one of those rare human beings who unequivocally changed the world with his art. Without Mizuki the world—and especially Japan—would be a very different place…

Shop update

It’s been a while since I’ve done a proper update to my etsy shop, but today I’ve added a few new items in time for the coming gift-giving season.

First up is Loki in a Bottle.

I designed and made this for a friend of mine and I decided to add it to the shop since I enjoyed making it. It also glows in the dark!

I think it’s a cute gift for any Loki or Tom Hiddleston fans. The listing for this is here – Loki in a Bottle

Next is The TARDIS and the Snowman.

This one was inspired by the Doctor Who Christmas special from 2012. I have a fondness for those creepy snowmen. You can’t really tell by the picture here, but I promise the snowman has his signature creepy grin!

The listing for this one is here – The TARDIS and the Snowman

Up next is my redesigned holiday macarons.

These can either come as a set or sold separately. The listing for these is here – Holiday Macaron Set

And lastly, my Queen of Hearts necklace!

This one is inspired by the design of the Queen of Hearts from American McGee’s Alice: Madness Returns. While it looks like it could prick you, I haven’t had any problems like that when I’ve worn it.

The listing is here – Queen of Hearts Necklace

I’ll most likely have another shop update later this week! And while I’m pimping my own items, I’ll pimp out my friend’s shop as well! She makes super cute crocheted items!

Forest Park in Autum

fp
Last weekend I tagged along with Katie over to Forest Park for another photo assignment she needed to get done. I actually hadn’t really been over there to walk around before, so there’s another place I can mark off my list. It’s lovely there in autumn, though it was super overcast that day. Here’s a few shots that I took.

I had Mamo-chan with me again. I really like how the colours in this one turned out.

The STL Science Center is nearby, so of course I had to get a shot of the T-Rex.

After we left that location, we headed over to The Muny to get a few more shots. We didn’t get to take as many there though because there were too many wedding parties getting photos taken.

I look forward to going back there again! Hopefully next time there will fewer big groups of wedding parties.

Ending this with a Rio since it’s National Cat Day.
